What is Advent Conspiracy?

Why do we always seem to come to the end of an Advent season exhausted and sensing we’ve missed it – the awe-inducing, soul-satisfying mystery of the incarnation?

For many of us, we are drowning in a sea of financial debt and endless lists of gifts to buy. We struggle to find the connection between our Christmas to-do lists and the story of Jesus’ birth.

An overwhelming stress has overtaken worship and celebration.

The time of year when focusing on Christ should be the easiest is often the hardest. Somehow, this had become the new normal.

What if we could change that?

WORSHIP FULLY Nearly every character in the Christmas story that encountered our King responded in the same way: worship. Let’s make the conscious effort to reorient our hearts toward Christ. Christmas began with worship, may it end with worship.

SPEND LESS In our hearts we know mindless consumption is not the way to celebrate Jesus. But spending less does not mean spending nothing. Rather we will thoughtfully evaluate what companies and causes we support through our purchases.

GIVE MORE The best gifts celebrate a relationship. They require our time and our energy. Relational giving means that we think about the other person–who they are and what they care about.

LOVE ALL Christmas is a chance to move closer to those in crisis. We will love others as Jesus has loved us. The poor and hurting of our world can be reached by God through the way we choose to celebrate Christmas.

WGBC’s ADVENT CONSPIRACY MINISTRIES

LOCAL

WILLOW GLEN ELEMENTARY FAMILIES — Due date December 9
WGBC has a deep connection with Willow Glen Elementary School. We serve the students through Kids Club and Sports Camp and we have several families who attend the school. During the holiday season, for many of the families we are connected with, money is tight. We have the honor of adopting these families. Prayerfully consider joining us by adopting a whole family, supporting and blessing them. Visit the ministry table to sign up and learn more.  Gifts are to be delivered directly to the Willow Glen Elementary School office by Monday, December 17. They’re going to go fast so don’t wait! Contact Katie Settle with any questions.

REGIONAL

CITY TEAM OAKLAND MEN'S RECOVERY PROGRAM — Due Date December 9
Help us give a $25 Target gift card to each of the men in the Men’s Recovery Program this year.  Drop your Target gift card donations off at the CityTeam Oakland ministry table anytime from 11/11 to 12/9. INTERNATIONAL

VISION TRUST LIBERIA — Due date December 9
Children's lives continue to be transformed at Vision Trust schools in Liberia. A brick school building has been started at the Project #3 school and we would like to help with the building completion! Please consider donating toward this cause.  Make checks payable to Vision Trust.  Contact Mike Lipsey or Blair Bassett with questions.  Visit the Vision Trust website to learn more about that ministry as well as the opportunity to sponsor children.

Through November 30, Vision Trust Liberia has an anonymous donor willing to match giving dollar for dollar up to $20,000. Give early and your gift will double!

MOLDOVA TOOL PROJECT Due date December 9
There is a young husband and father in the village of Cobani (Coh-bahn) by the name of Eduard. Eduard is insanely skilled in nearly every facet of building and repair: electrical, plumbing, foundations, framing, brickwork, tiling, and on and on. What is doubly remarkable is that he has learned all of these trades with stunningly substandard tools, most of which are not only outdated, but broken and held together with duck tape and a prayer.

Eduard can’t make it in the village and feed his beautiful daughters and wife, so to earn enough to live he has to leave the country months at a time to work in Kiev, Moscow, and other cities.

Through the prayers and generosity of faithful saints, Victor Zama has been able to hire Eduard to work all through the village where the opportunity to bless people with repairs and home enhancements is enormous. There is enough work for many years: broken windows and doors, drafty siding, cracked wood stoves, dangerous wells, leaking roofs, crumbling steps, and much more.

This Advent Conspiracy season, we have put together a list of tools for Eduard that will equip him to bring the gospel to this village of 3,000 through projects that would never, ever, happen otherwise.

All tools will be purchased in Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova as possible. Photos of gratitude from the village, guaranteed!

Multumesc si binecuvantari,

Contact Mark Bucko with questions.
